Position Summary:

Seattle Iron & Metals Corporation has immediate openings for experienced Scrap Metal Burners to cut pieces of various sizes down to specified dimensions using an oxygen/natural gas torch.

Responsibilities:

• Adherence with company safety and environmental standards
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift inspections to ensure equipment is in good working order
• Maintain a safe torching environment conducive to fire control
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Previous experience with torch cutting scrap metal
• Experience with respirators and other safety equipment
• Ability to clearly communicate in English

Physical Requirements to Perform Job Functions:

• Good visual acuity
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, hear audible warning signals, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.  Operating and moving various equipment may require dexterity to push, pull, climb, bend, twist, turn, reach, etc.
• Personal protective equipment is required given multiple hazards typical of scrap yards and torching environment
• Must exhibit a high level of endurance, energy, and strength to successfully perform duties

Work Hours:

Monday through Friday with occasional overtime
